The railroad arrived in 1875 and the stations was built shortly after. The section along the Bay and Rattlesnake Mountain call "The Red Rocks" was considered an "engineering marvel and a masterpiece of its time." Workmen wer lowered down the cliffs in baskets to carve a shelf in the side of the mountain. It is said, that inconstructing the 400 foot tinnel, Dynamite replaced black powder for the time in this country.
